Writing of Shong Lue Yang

In the Hmong community, Shong Lue Yang’s alphabet is often referred by a few different names:

  • Ntawv Pahawh
  • Ntawv Keeb
  • Ntawv Caub Fab
  • Ntawv Soob Lwj

Although these names may vary, its origins will always lead back to Shong Lue Yang.

Currently, there are 3 versions being taught in the Hmong community. These versions are version 2, 3 and 4. There is a consensus that versions 1 and 2 was constructed and taught by Shong Lue, but 3 and 4 is debatable.

There are rumors that his students may have taken version 2 and revised it into versions 3 and 4 since these versions surfaced only after his assassination. Then again there are other rumors that versions 3 and 4 were revised by Shong Lue prior to his death and these revised versions were only given to his closest students to carry on with his teachings.
